Teens Hurt in St. Mary's County Car Crash

Police: Victims were thrown from car after going off the road

Two teenagers were seriously injured early Sunday in a single-car accident in St. Mary's County.

Investigators say that a 2003 Honda Accord was traveling south on Society Hill Road near Breton View Drive in Leonardtown shortly before 4 a.m when it went off the road. The car then crashed into a telephone pole and a tree before splitting in half. A police spokesperson told News4 that about 30 yards of debris covered the road near the site of the crash.

Authorities say that a 19-year-old man identified as Conner Riley Nauman, of Clements, and a 16-year-old girl were ejected from the car. Both were taken by helicopter to Prince Georges Shock Trauma Center with what police described as "incapacitating injuries."

An investigation is ongoing, but the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office believes that alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the crash.
