Two teenagers were arrested Saturday and charged for beating a 69-year-old dog walker in Northwest D.C. while trying to steal her car, police say.
The two suspects, 16-year-old Kaveyon Andrews of Northeast D.C., and 17-year-old Thadduse Hartridge of Southeast D.C., were both arrested and charged as adults with assault with intent to rob while armed and armed carjacking.
Police say Andrews and Hartridge beat the victim with a pipe in broad daylight during an attempted carjacking Thursday in the 1400 block of Euclid Street NW.
The woman was dropping off a dog named Luchu when two men tried to steal her car. Another dog was also in the car during the attack.
"She got out and they confronted her and told her to give [them] the car and she refused because the dogs were in the car and then they beat her," said Caesar Layton, Luchu's owner.
Police say the suspects were unable to take the vehicle.
The victim's daughter told News4 that the pipe attack left deep gashes in her mother's head.

"I don't know. These people are just, I guess, sick in the head. Because how you can beat the person that cannot defend theirselves?" the victim's daughter said.
D.C. police also say Andrews and Hartridge were charged in two other robbery offenses, including an armed robbery on Dec. 12 in the 1000 block of Irving Street NW and a robbery while armed with a knife on Jan. 16 in the 3000 block of Sherman Avenue NW.
The owners of the dogs set up a fundraiser to help the dog walker with her medical expenses.
