Teen Tries to Choke Woman Hiking in Maryland Park: Police

Woman suffers minor injuries in strange attack

PASADENA, Md. -- A teenager tried to choke a 40-year-old woman who was enjoying a Labor Day weekend hike in an Anne Arundel County park, police said.

The teen, believed to be between 13 and 16 years old, lured the woman close to him by falling off his bicycle on purpose several times Sunday afternoon at John H. Downs Memorial Park, police said.

The woman felt uneasy as she approached the teen, police said. After she started walking away, the teen ran up from behind and grabbed her around the neck, police said.

The woman was able to break free and call for help, and the teen fled on foot, leaving the bike behind. Officers searched the park but couldn't find him.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

Police have increased their presence at the park since the incident.
