Teen Sentenced to 60 Years for Murder of 92-Year-Old

William Fitts, 16, had pleaded guilty to killing his 92-year-old neighbor

The 16-year-old who pleaded guilty to killing his 92-year-old neighbor was sentenced today in Prince George's County court.

William Fitts received the maximum sentence of 60 years in prison. He pleaded guilty in April to second-degree murder and first degree burglary and theft from Thelma Steele, who lived across the street from him.

Fitts was 15 at the time of the murder, but was charged as an adult.

Police say he admitted to stabbing Steele several times after they argued.

He also told police he returned to her District Heights home later that day and stole her purse, credit card and cash. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit found Fitts had used the victim's credit card to purchase organic marijuana online in the days following the incident.
