Icy road conditions may have been a factor in a single-car crash that killed a teenager in Charles County, Md.
Katherine Kristen Murray, 16, lost control of the Honda she was driving and struck a tree in the 7300 block of Olivers Shop Road in LaPlata at 10:42 p.m. Wednesday, according to the sheriff's office. She died at the scene.
Not far from the winding stretch where Katherine crashed, four teenagers died in a crash in November 2007. That school year, nine Charles County teens died on county roads.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but the condition of the road and the speed of the car apparently contributed, according to the sheriff's office.
Katherine was wearing a seatbelt and was alone in the car, according to the sheriff's office.
