A 17-year-old is dead and an 18-year-old is seriously injured after a shooting in the District Monday night.

The Spingarn High School students were shot at about 8:45 p.m. in the 1300 block of Holbrook Street in Northeast.

Both victims were taken to an area hospital where 17-year-old Joseph Sharps Jr. died, police said. The 18-year-old's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police have not said whether they have a suspect or a motive.

A crisis team is offering support to Spingarn students and staff and will remain at the school for as long as they are needed, school officials said.
