According to investigators, the driver, also 17, was driving southbound on Beulah Street around 3 a.m. when he came upon a deer in the road. The teen swerved to avoid the deer, causing the vehicle to slide and hit a telephone pole.

Both the driver and Fuentes were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where Fuentes sucumbbed to his injuries. He was a senior at Lee High School, and his aunt said he had planned to become a mechanic."

"He was the man of the house, he took care of his mom," Judy Hernandez said. "Any time he would meet us he would say, 'Did you miss me?' I guess it's too late that he can't hear me, but I miss him."

The driver was treated and released. No charges have been filed.
