Teen Dies Week After Rockville Hit-and-Run

A 16-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries from a crash and died late Sunday night, Montgomery County police said.

Noel Hernandez Mendoza was a passenger on a motor scooter driven by a 19-year-old man when it was struck by a silver Mercedes just after midnight on Oct. 18 on Veirs Mill Road in Rockville, Md. The driver of the Mercedes stopped briefly, then left the scene but later turned himself in to police.

It's unknown why the Mercedes struck the motor scooter, police said.

The Mercedes dragged the scooter for a block, witnesses told police.

The driver of the scooter, Mario Claros Hernandez, is in serious condition at an area trauma center.

No charges have been filed as police continue the investigation.
