Teen Convicted in Toddler Shooting in Lanham, Maryland

Jury reached guilty verdict on Wednesday

A 17-year-old could do jail time for shooting a child in the face last summer in Lanham, Maryland.

Devon Matos was convicted of assault and using a handgun to commit a violent crime after Matos fired shots in the child's direction.

It took a jury two and a half hours to come down with the guilty verdict on Wednesday.

Shekena Johnson was outside her apartment with son Deondre when police say Matos fired shots in her direction. One of those bullets hit Deondre, and he is still recovering from his injuries and faces several more surgeries.

Matos will be sentenced in June.
