Teen Arrested in Silver Spring Armed Carjacking

A 17-year-old armed with a steak knife has been arrested following a carjacking Monday.

The victim, a 62-year-old man, told police he was walking to a parking garage at 1000 Spring Street in Silver Spring, Md. just after 3 p.m. He said he spotted a teen, later identified as Leroy Brown, standing outside the garage, who then followed him to his car.

Once the victim was inside the car, he told police Brown pulled out a steak knife, held it to his throat and ordered him out of the vehicle. Police said Brown also robbed the victim of his wallet before driving away in his 2009 Hyundai Accent.

Police caught up with Brown within an hour of the incident and charged him as an adult for armed carjacking, armed robbery, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, second degree assault and attempting to elude a police officer by fleeing on foot.
