Teacher Pleads Guilty to Sexually Assaulting Six Students

A D.C. elementary school teacher sexually assaulted six of his students, according to the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Manuel Fernandez, a 35-year-old teacher at Latin American Montessori Bilingual Charter School (L.A.M.B.), pleaded guilty Friday to two charges of second-degree child sexual abuse, one charge of attempted second-degree child sexual abuse and three charges of misdemeanor sexual abuse of a child.

While Fernandez was a teacher at L.A.M.B., he inappropriately touched many of his students, male and female, under and over their clothing, according to the plea documents.

The plea deal calls for a prison term of one-and-a-half to eight years, and Fernandez would also be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.

Fernandez’s sentencing is scheduled for September 7, 2017 at 2 p.m.
