An award-winning coach in northern Virginia, cleared of charges that he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl, is now fighting to get his job back.
He was arrested in January after a sixth-grade student claimed he groped her in an equipment room.
At his trial, witnesses and fellow students testified that the accuser admitted to having a grudge against Lanigan. In May, jurors found him not guilty.
Lanigan, who is also the varsity soccer coach at Herndon High School, said he'd like to return as soon as possible.
Fairfax County Public Schools said it’s conducting its own investigation before it decides to reinstate Lanigan.
Although his job is in question, he has received back pay.
