Teacher Accused of Sex With Student Dead of Apparent Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

A high school teacher under investigation for allegations she had a sexual relationship with a student may have killed herself over the weekend.

Linda Burke, 41, was found dead in her Manassas, Virginia, home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday morning. The English-as-a-second-language teacher was on administrative leave from Potomac High School.

According to court documents, Burke carried on an inappropriate relationship with a boy in person and digitally via text messages and emails. Burke admitted using a cellphone to communicate with the student, court documents said.

She had not officially been charged with any sexual misconduct but was still under investigation and earlier this month had been charged with obstruction of justice and assault on a Virginia State Police detective working the case. She was out on bond.

Burke was the wife of a Prince William County police officer and the mother of elementary school-aged children.
