Taxi Driver Robbed in Southeast D.C.

A taxi driver was robbed by four people in southeast Washington, then was stuffed into the trunk of his own cab, D.C. police said.

The robbery occurred early Sunday morning. According to a police report, four people hailed the 38-year-old taxi driver in northwest D.C. and had the driver take them to the 3400 block of 5th Street in Southeast.

Once there, the driver said he was choked from behind and punched in the head and face by the suspects. They took the driver's cell phone and wallet, and demanded his ATM PIN, saying if it wasn't correct, "they would kill him," the police report read.

The suspects then put the driver in the trunk. After a few minutes, one of the suspects opened the trunk, gave the driver his keys and told him to wait forty seconds before doing anything, according to the police report.

The suspects fled. The driver was treated at a local hospital for bruises.
