Tanker Fuel Leaks Into Fairfax Creek

Truck driver charged after wreck on Little River Turnpike

About 4,000 gallons of fuel spilled out of a tanker truck after an accident in Fairfax, Va. Saturday.  Some of that fuel went into a creek.

The truck driver was making a left turn from Pickett Rd. onto Little River Turnpike when the tanker flipped over.

The driver was not hurt.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, but the wreck impacted traffic in the area. The intersection was shut down for several hours Saturday afternoon. Officers were out on the road, directing cars around the wreck.

HAZMAT crews, Virginia State Police and Fairfax City Police officers worked to contain the spill and assess any possible contamination.

Officials did not evacuate Pickett Shopping Center or any other nearby homes or businesses because of the fuel spill.

The tanker driver has been charged with reckless driving.
