TSA Offers Advice on Bringing Gifts on Board

Wrapped gifts are OK, but not encouraged

Transportation Security Administration officials say travelers should take caution when bringing presents aboard the plane. They say while wrapped gifts are allowed they are not encouraged.

According to the TSA blog, Christmas sweaters are permitted, even if they are ugly. However the TSA says if you're wearing a top with blinking holiday lights, you may get some extra attention.

You can take a turkey on board, or a pie or a cake, but stuff containing liquids should be shipped through, such as cranberry sauce and gift baskets with liquid food items, including gravy, jams and jellies.

As for fruitcake? The agency says contrary to popular belief, fruitcake is a "delicious, edible and permitted cake, not a WMD," otherwise known as a weapon of mass destruction.
