TSA Caught Record Number of Guns in 2013

Transportation Security Administration officers have confiscated a record number of firearms in 2013, according to TSA statistics released Friday.

TSA officers caught 1,813 guns at checkpoints throughout the nation in 2013, compared to the 1,556 guns caught in 2013. About 80 percent of the guns confiscated in 2013 were loaded.

Of the airports in the D.C. metropolitan area, the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall had the highest number of firearms caught in 2013, with a total of 13 gun confiscations. Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National airports followed with eight and six irearms caught, respectively.

The top five airports where TSA officers confiscated guns in the past year are Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, Dallas/Fort Worth International, George Bush Intercontinental International, Phoenix Sky Harbor International and Denver International.
