Suspicious Powder Mailed to DC Office

FBI has taken over investigation

A letter containing a suspicious powder that was sent to a DC office today is now in the hands of the FBI.

The letter arrived at a highrise in the 700 block of First Street NE Tuesday afternoon. Fire officials say that building houses the American Psychological Association. All offices were evacuated, and Hazmat teams shut down the entire block for the investigation.

The FBI is now conducting tests on the substance and envelope, but investigators tell News4 the powder does not appear to be hazardous.

Three people who were inside the office when the envelope was opened drove themselves to the hospital, but so far there are no reports of anyone feeling sick.
