Hyattsville police say the plans of two would-be robbers were thwarted when one of their victims got control of their gun.

The men approached a man and woman as they were getting out of their vehicle in the 5600 block of 30th Avenue just before 10 p.m. Police say one suspect approached the female victim while the other approached the male, displayed a gun and demanded his property.

A struggle ensued, and the male victim was able to grab the weapon. Police say when the second robber approached the man, the victim fired at both men. Both suspects were last seen running towards the Hyattsville Metro Station.
