Suspected Thief Stabs Officer in Neck at Giant Store: Police

D.C. police are searching for a man who they say stabbed a special police officer in the neck several times after trying to steal from a Giant grocery store.

Police were called to the stabbing at the Giant store at 1535 Alabama Avenue SE about 11:43 a.m.

According to a police report, the officer approached the suspect who was spotted stealing items from the store.

The suspect became upset and started running. When the officer ran after and apprehended the man, the suspect took out a knife and stabbed the officer multiple times in the neck, upper body and back area, the report said.

The suspect fled the scene on foot.

Police said the officer was taken to George Washington Hospital and was conscious and breathing. His condition is not known at this time.

On Sunday, police released a photo of the suspect and described him as a black male with short hair and brown eyes who was wearing a black t-shirt.
