Montgomery County police say they have a suspect in custody in connection with last week's armed sex assault along the Northwest Branch Trail.

The suspect, Joaquin Orellana Torres, was denied bond in court Monday. He is charged with first-degree rape and armed robbery.

On May 5, the victim said she was running along the Northwest Branch Trail just after 4 p.m. near Oakview Drive when a stranger pulled her off the trail and sexually assaulted her. She told police he was armed with a knife.

Neighbors saw the woman appear out of the trail shortly after the assault, distraught and covered in mud.
