The second suspect charged in the fatal shooting of an off-duty Secret Service officer was already in custody in connection with the slaying of a 15-year-old boy on a Metro station platform, D.C. police said.
Maurice Bellamy, 17, is charged with first-degree murder while armed in the December death of Secret Service Uniformed Division Officer Arthur Baldwin, 30, Chief Cathy Lanier said. Police previously announced the arrest of 29-year-old Charles Sims on the same charge in the case.
Bellamy has been in custody on a second-degree murder charge in the shooting of 15-year-old Davonte Washington in the Deanwood Metro station March 26. Washington was with his mother and sisters on his way to get a haircut before Easter when Bellamy asked him why he was looking at him, witnesses told police. When Washington replied, "What?" Bellamy shot him twice in the chest and ran, witnesses said.
Bellamy was identified as the suspect after police compared video surveillance footage from the Metro station to a database of juvenile offenders, court documents say. There's no indication Bellamy and Washington knew each other, police said.
Police believe the motive for shooting the Secret Service officer was robbery, Lanier said.
Baldwin was shot multiple times about 2:50 p.m. Dec. 15 in the 4700 block of 1st Street SW. Police arrived at the scene and found Baldwin unconscious. Baldwin was sent to a local hospital, where he later died, police said.
At the time of his death, Baldwin was on administrative leave from the Secret Service after an ex-girlfriend accused him of breaking into her home, NBC Washington previously reported.

Police said that the shooting was unrelated to the alleged break-in or his job.
The Secret Service said Baldwin had most recently been assigned to the White House. He worked for the Secret Service for eight years and has a wife and three children.
Just hours before he was killed, Baldwin appeared in court on a charge of destruction of property stemming from an April 2015 incident in which he allegedly tried to break into his girlfriend's home.
