Suspect Charged in Arlington Jewelry Store Slaying

A D.C. man was charged in the killing of an Arlington jewelry store owner, Arlington County police said.

James Sylvester Caroline, who was arrested on a probation violation Wednesday, was charged Friday with murder in the death of 52-year-old Tommy Wong last week, police said. Wong was found dead inside the store after family members called police because he hadn't returned home.

Surveillance video of the July 27 robbery at Capital Jewelers on Columbia Pike shows it was committed by a person wearing a yellow traffic safety vest, a possible cover, since many construction workers in the area wear the vests as they work, police said.

D.C. police have been trying to determine if that robbery is connected to a June 9 jewelry store robbery in Northwest. Video from that robbery also shows a gunman wearing a yellow safety vest.

Caroline is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility, police said.
