Police arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a girl in Montgomery County, Md.

The 7-year-old girl got separated from her family at Unique Thrift Store on Veirs Mill Road at about 7 p.m. on Aug. 1. A man approached her and touched her clothing in the area of her genitals, police said. The girl tried to get away from the man, but he followed her and touched her again the same way.

The girl ran and hid from the man in a rack of clothing. While she hid, she watched the man apparently still trying to find her, according to police. She then saw her mother and told her what happened.

Before leaving the store, the man went into a bathroom and came out wearing a different shirt, police said. Video surveillance captured images of the man in both shirts.

Mario Amaro, 45, of Rockville was arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree sex offense and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense. He is being held on $75,000 bond.

Anyone who's aware of other incidents of inappropriate contact by Amaro should call police at 240-773-5400.
