Suspicious Death of Infant Being Investigated in Petworth: Police Sources

The death of a 4-week-old baby in D.C. on Tuesday is being investigated as suspicious, police sources tell News4.

Police responded to a home on the 3700 block of 9th Street NW about 3:45 p.m. after a 911 call was made.

When officers arrived to the home near the Petworth-Georgia Avenue Metro station, they found a 4-week-old boy who was unresponsive, sources said.

An EMS crew tried to revive the infant and rushed him to a hospital, where he died.

The infant's mother told detectives she put the baby down to sleep at 9 a.m. and then checked on him about 2 p.m., sources said. When the baby was checked on again after 3 p.m., he was unresponsive.

The baby's father said the family is awaiting the results of an autopsy report, declining to comment any further.

No one had been charged with a crime as of Tuesday night.
