Stormy Romance Cited in Frostburg Student's Death

University student charged in shootings of two fellow students

A stormy romance may be a factor in a fatal shooting near Frostburg State University.

Tyrone Hall is accused in death of Frostburg basketball player Brandon Carroll. Carroll's teammate, Ellis Hartridge, was also wounded in the shooting.

Court records reveal that in December, Hartridge had sought a protective order against Patrice Britton, with whom he once lived, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Three days before the shooting, Britton asked for a protective order against Hartridge, accusing him of pushing and choking her.

Hall said Britton, who is not a student at Frostburg, is his former girlfriend.

Hall claimed self-defense during a Sunday-morning confrontation with Carroll and Hartridge involving Britton, police said.
