State Trooper Accused of Sexually Assaulting Handcuffed Woman

Sex assault suspect resigned from Maryland State Police in April

SILVER SPRING, Md. -- Just a few months after leaving the Maryland State Police force, a former trooper is in trouble with the law, police said.

Marlon Iglesias, 42, was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman and charged with sexual offenses.

Iglesias arrested a woman for allegedly driving under the influence on Interstate 270 in July 2008, police said. In May, the woman told police that the former trooper sexually assaulted her and fondled and kissed her while she was handcuffed. She had been put in the front seat of his patrol car, and he squeezed her thigh while driving her to the Rockville barracks, the woman said. At the barracks, Iglesias allegedly fondled her, kissed her and sexually assaulted her in other ways.

Maryland State Police hired Iglesias in 1994 to patrol roads out of the Rockville barracks. In January, his police powers were suspended because of a personnel issue. After being disciplined for a personnel issue, Iglesias resigned in April.

Iglesias was released on $30,000 bond.
