Maryland Student Home From College Killed in DC During Rap Video Filming

Ayana McAllister was home on spring break from Saint Augustine's University in Raleigh, North Carolina, her father said

A college student home for spring break was shot and killed while watching the filming of a rap video in Northeast Washington Monday evening.

Ayana McAllister, 18, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, died after she was shot in the 4300 block of Benning Road, Northeast, around 8:40 p.m. Monday. Police said a second woman, who was also shot, went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before officers arrived.

McAllister was home on spring break from Saint Augustine's University in Raleigh, North Carolina, her father, Anthony McAllister said.

The school sent condolences on Twitter to the family.

When McAllister was shot, she was watching a rap video that a friend was videotaping, her father said. Someone pulled out a gun and opened fire.

"That's my baby. I just miss her warm smile. The close relationship that we have," he said. "They were just spending time with him yesterday. Several kids hanging out."

Police have not released any information about the gunman or a possible motive.

This is the second shooting death in the family this year. Ayana McAllister's cousin, Carrington Carter, was shot and killed in Capitol Heights in December. He was 27.

Police are urging anyone with information surrounding the shooting or footage from the music video filming to contact the police at 202-727-9099.
