Speed Concerns Where Car Hit Boy in MD Crosswalk

10-year-old in critical condition

Residents of a Maryland community want an area made safer after a 10-year-old boy was struck by a car in a crosswalk Sunday afternoon.

The fifth-grader is in critical condition at Children’s Hospital. He was with his mother and friends when he was struck crossing McDaniel Road in Waldorf. He suffered life-threatening head trauma despite wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Nissan Altima that struck him stopped after hitting him. There are no skid marks.

Police are investigating whether it was a case of distracted driving. They are checking phone records and how fast she was driving.

Residents told News4 people drive too fast in the area.

The crosswalk is clearly marked, and signs warn drivers to watch for pedestrians and bikers.
