Special Education Social Worker Charged in 6 Bank Robberies

Prince George's County police have charged a man with six bank robberies in Largo and Bowie.

Damon Roberts Jr., 47, was arrested Thursday at his home in Landover, Md.

The robberies occurred between March 12 and July 8, police said. In each incident, a man entered the bank posing as a customer and gave a note to a teller demanding money. The robber then fled on foot.

Surveillance video of his car at a bank robbery in Anne Arundel County led to his arrest, police said.

Roberts works for D.C. Public Schools as a special education social worker, according to a DCPS spokesperson. He is on administrative leave and not currently placed at a school, and if convicted of a crime, he will be terminated in accordance with DCPS policy.

A neighbor told NBC4's Derrick Ward that Roberts is a U.S. Army veteran who served a couple tours in Iraq.

There were no injuries in the robberies.
