The Federal Aviation Administration is reminding residents and visitors that Washington, D.C., is a “no drone zone.”
Any type of unmanned aircraft, or “drone” is prohibited in the District of Columbia and the surrounding communities within a 15-mile radius of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Unless you have specific approval, operating an unmanned aircraft in this area is against the law.
Violators face stiff fines and criminal penalties.
The airspace around D.C. is more restricted than in any other part of the country. Rules put in place after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks establish “‘national defense airspace” over the area and limit aircraft operations.
