Southeast D.C. Holds Vigil for 4 Killed in One Week

More than 100 people gathered in Southeast D.C. Monday evening to pay tribute to four individuals who lost their lives in less than a week.

Southeast's Ridge Road community has experienced a daunting week of violence. In a triple shooting Wednesday, 19-year-old Anthony Chase and 27-year-old Eric Leeper were shot several times and killed.

Less than two miles away and three days later, Octavia Mayfield lost both her son and daughter in a shooting. She told News4 21-year-old Jamahl Jenkins and 28-year-old Jamie Jenkins were killed over their smart phones and a tablet.

"I actually live in this ward," Mayor Vincent Gray said during the vigil. "I represented it as a Ward 7 council member. I know these streets. I know these communities probably as well as anybody."
