Son Charged in Arlington Man's Death

Police have charged three men in the death of an 87-year-old Arlington man in October, including the victim’s son.

Mack Wood’s body was found at the foot of the stairs inside his home. Mack Wood Jr. ran from the house screaming for neighbors to get help.

“My father had terminal cancer, and he only had a few months left,” said his daughter, Laura Wood. “And all I wanted was one more Thanksgiving and one more Christmas with my dad, and I was robbed of all of that.”

It appeared Mack Wood fell to his death, but in a surprising development Tuesday, 47-year-old Mack Wood Jr. was charged with first-degree murder. The medical examiner determined a fall was not the cause of death.

“The only thing that I can think of is I guess I never really knew my brother,” Laura Wood said. “It’s like a movie, and I feel like I’m on the outside watching this.”

Mack Wood Jr. was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in the Tampa, Fla., area.

Two accomplices from Henrico County – 32-year-old Jean Caleb Pierre and 29-year-old Sapien Edmonds – also were charged with first-degree murder.
