An elderly woman's son stabbed her to death in her Northeast D.C. apartment late Saturday night, police say.
Officers found 81-year-old Anne Alfredia Cook suffering from multiple sharp and blunt force injuries in the 5200 block of 4th Street NE about 10:45 p.m.
Medics took Cook to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
On Sunday, police arrested Cook's son, 51-year-old Derek Norman Cook, and charged him with first-degree murder while armed.
Anne Cook's neighbors and friends told News4 she was active in her community and enjoyed going on walks.
"She was just a person that you could not dislike," one woman said.
