Smithsonian to Host Helicopter Festival in Va.

The Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum facility in northern Virginia is giving visitors a chance to get up close to learn more about helicopters.

On Saturday, the museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly will offer a free daylong event focused on helicopters from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature a police helicopter from Fairfax County, a TV helicopter from Baltimore and a Virginia search and rescue chopper.

Flight curator Roger Connor also will demonstrate a remote-control helicopter. And a team of University of Maryland students who set a world record with their human-powered helicopter will have a display.

The event is part of the museum's Super Science Saturday series that focuses on different scientific concepts each month.
