Slots Arrive at Maryland Live!

Casino scheduled for June opening

The first batch of slot machines arrived at Maryland Live! Casino in Anne Arundel County today, and crews have their work cut out for them.

A grand total of 4,750 gaming positions will be available at the casino. Compare that to the most gaming positions you can find at one Las Vegas casino: 2,500.

The first phase of the $500 million private venture includes 3,000 machines and six restaurants. A second set of machines will be added during the second phase of the project.

Although some residents in the area are concerned about the extra traffic the casino will generate and where all those cars will park, developers have taken some measures, like adding 5,000 extra parking spaces and making more than 20 intersection improvements in order to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

A plaza will connect the 2 million square foot casino to Arundel Mills Mall.

The developers hope to open the first phase of the casino in June and the second phase in October.

Management is hiring for almost 1,500 positions. A job fair will be held Saturday at 727 Park Circle Drive in Hanover, Md.
