A sinkhole on southbound GW Parkway paired with a presidential motorcade in the opposite direction halted rush hour traffic in the D.C. area Tuesday.
The sinkhole was reported Monday following a crash, and closed the southbound lanes for hours. The road reopened just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Several hours earlier though, the president's motorcade shut down the northbound lanes of GW to go southbound back to the White House. The 30-minute plus road closure also included the entirety of the Key Bridge.

The motorcade finally passed over the Key Bridge just before 6 p.m.
U.S. Park Police officers discovered the sinkhole shortly before 7 p.m. Monday when they came upon a four-vehicle crash on the parkway. The vehicles had avoided the sinkhole.
