Sinkhole Opens Up in NE D.C. Neighborhood After Water Main Break

A giant sinkhole consumed a neighborhood street in Northeast Washington Monday afternoon.

An eight-inch water main break created the massive crater, located on the 1200 block of Farragut Street NE. The sinkhole was so big it swallowed the front end of a SUV.

A tow truck had to be called in to remove the vehicle. D.C. water crews worked into the night to repair the pipes and eventually patch up the sinkhole, but have yet to succeed.
