Keep Your Umbrella Nearby; Rain Expected to Continue Thursday

That summer-like weather we've been experiencing has gone on hiatus -- it's feeling more like April again.

And you'll have to keep that umbrella handy for the third day in a row. Fog and scattered rain provided a chilly, damp start to Thursday, and periods of steadier rain are expected throughout the day.

Thursday's expected high temperature is just 63 degrees -- a drop of about 25 degrees from Wednesday. By the end of the week, temperatures will be back  up in the 70s.

Scattered showers could influence your evening commute Thursday, but the weather will certainly be less intense than we saw earlier in the week.

Isolated storms Tuesday triggered severe thunderstorm warnings in central and northern Virginia Wednesday afternoon, and a flash flood warning for west central Spotsylvania County Wednesday evening.

During Tuesday's storm, a woman was struck by lightning in Germantown at Blunt Road and Brink Road while she was walking her dog. She's in serious condition at a local hospital.

Heavy rain and wind whipped through Montgomery County, knocking down trees and pulling out power lines, making the evening commute difficult for drivers. Some people said Tuesday's storm was unexpected.

"It just came out of nowhere," said one man, "and 15 minutes later, I saw three trees on the ground."
