Authorities say a family meeting turned into a case of murder in Reston Tuesday morning.

Charles A. Hamilton, 59, has been charged with the murder of his sister, Dr. Ruth Hamilton Allen at their mother’s home.

Fairfax County Police arrived at the home in the 11300 block of Geddys Court around 9:40 a.m., to find Allen, 68, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

The siblings had been at their mother’s home to discuss the guardianship of another brother who had recently suffered a stroke, News4’s Pat Collins reports.

Their 91 year-old mother, Marion Hamilton, was the one who called police.

Allen worked as a life coach, and as an assistant professor at American University and an adjunct professor at Yale. She held a PhD from Yale and a Masters from Johns Hopkins. She was a member of the Baha'i Faith community.
