Sheriff's Office Investigating String of Robberies in Loudoun County

Burglars of eight homes in the Lansdowne, Ashburn, Brambleton and South Riding areas of Loudoun County appear to be targeting jewelry, according to the sheriff's office, which is working with federal and other local law enforcement to investigate.

Authorities believe the burglaries, which began in October, are connected.

Three suspects in a February South Riding break-in were identified and taken into custody in Maryland. Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office placed burglary detainers on all three suspects.

“This case remains an active and evolving investigation,” said Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman. “The series of burglaries involves multiple jurisdictions throughout the region, and our detectives are working closely with our partners in local and federal law enforcement to ensure all of those involved are brought to justice.”

In most of the incidents, burglars entered homes through the back door while the residents were elsewhere and specifically targeted gold jewelry, according to the sheriff's office.

State Delegate David Ramadan, of the 87th District where most of the homes were robbed, said he is pleased with the sheriff office’s efforts in working to close these cases.

“The cooperative effort between the sheriff’s office here in Loudoun and several other local and federal agencies has made our community safer,” he said.
