Sheriff Develops Suspect in 2012 Homicide of Virginia Reporter

Sarah L. Greenhalgh died from a gunshot wound to the neck

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office confirmed Monday that it has developed a suspect in the 2012 shooting death of a Virginia newspaper reporter.

They’re not identifying who the suspect in the death of 48-year-old Sarah Greenhalgh is because the investigation is still active.

Greenhalgh was found dead in her burning Upperville home July 9, 2012. An off-duty firefighter noticed smoke and called 911.

Greenhalgh had been shot in the neck.

Police have been quiet about most of the details in the case.

Greenhalgh, 48, had covered Frederick County government for the Winchester Star since August 2011. She had worked at other local papers in Fauquier County and had covered local equestrian sports, especially steeplechase racing, as a freelance writer for the Chronicle of the Horse and other publications for more than 20 years.
