Sexual Assault Reported at Senior Center

Residents wonder if assault in June is related

An 86-year old woman was physically and sexually assaulted at the Churchill Senior Living Center in Germantown, Md., early Saturday morning.

“An unknown man entered her apartment through an unlocked window,” said Lucille Baur, of the Montgomery County Police Department. “This was a ground-floor apartment.”

The victim used her life-alert pendant to call for help. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Residents who live in the neighborhood of the senior living center are on edge.  In June, a 68-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in her condo across the street.

One woman told NBC4's Jane Watrel that her mother has asked to move out of Churchill temporarily, even though it's just the first the woman has heard of a crime like that at the center.

At this point there is no concrete evidence linking the two assaults. But police are investigating to see if the two attacks are related.

"Both times, early morning hours," Baur said. "Both times, victims in their beds. The suspect has a similar description -- 18 to mid-20s, 5-feet-8 to 5-feet-9 inches tall, a thin build, no facial hair."
