Sex Assault Victim Met Attacker on eHarmony: Sheriff

Sexual assaults linked to Craigslist have become far too common -- common enough that the site has removed its adult services section  -- but that's not the only site where people seek companionship, so it's not the only site that can lead to stranger danger.

A Loudoun County, Va., man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman he apparently met on the dating website eHarmony.com, the sheriff's office said.

John Swann Evans, 34, met the 37-year-old victim on the site in June, authorities said. In July, she went to his home where he held her against her will and sexually assaulted her.

"We are deeply saddened to hear of this terrible incident and our hearts go out to the victim," eHarmony said in a statement. "As soon as we learned of this situation, we called the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division to offer assistance in their investigation. We look forward to helping them however we can. We also immediately closed Mr. Evans’s account and notified all of his matches not to communicate with him."

Evans was charged with abduction with intent to defile and forcible sodomy.

Sheriff's investigators are concerned the woman wasn't his first victim and want to hear from anyone who knows of other possible cases. Call 703-777-0475.
