Several people were injured when a front-end loader struck a Metrobus in northeast D.C. Tuesday afternoon.

The front-end loader punctured a hole in the side of the bus in the 1100 block of N. Capital Street NE near New York Avenue, officials said.

Police blocked the roadway for a while to treat the injured.

Five people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and a sixth suffered very serious injuries but is expected to be OK. All six were taken to area hospitals.

The Route 80 bus was headed to Fort Totten.

Police cited the driver of the front-end loader for unsafe operation, according to Metro.
