Seven people were hurt, two with life-threatening injuries, in a five-vehicle collision in Columbia Saturday morning.

Police said the crash occurred along Route 175 eastbound near Route 108 shortly before noon. Seven patients were taken to area hospitals.

Route 175 was closed in both directions for a short time to allow a medical helicopter to land and accept patients. One lane has reopened eastbound and motorists can expect significant delays in the area.

The Howard County Traffic Enforcement Section is expected to be on the scene for several hours to investigate the crash.
