A pedestrian died following an accident in the 1300 block of New York Avenue NE Wednesday morning.
The victim was struck while crossing New York Avenue before 5:30 a.m. near Kendall Street.
The driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene. A smashed windshield and significant body damage were evident, reported News4's Tony Tull.
The driver told Tull that the pedestrian stepped into New York Avenue about 100 feet from a crosswalk. D.C. Police are continuing to investigate.
All westbound lanes of New York Avenue NE were closed for several hours after the crash. They reopened around 8 a.m.
