Former Owner of Assisted-Living Center to Be Sentenced for Neglect of 84-Year-Old Woman

The former owner of a Boonsboro assisted-living center faces sentencing for neglecting an 84-year-old woman who fell through the floor.

Dickson Tabi of Silver Spring could get up to 10 years in prison at the hearing Monday in Hagerstown.

Tabi operated the Soma Manor House in August 2012 when the Alzheimer's patient fell through a hole in a second-story room under renovation. She suffered several broken bones and a head injury.

Tabi pleaded guilty in October to neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in physical injury.

Police say Tabi waited more than five hours to call an ambulance and then denied knowing how the woman got hurt. Investigators say he tried to cover up the incident by patching the damaged ceiling.
