Sentencing For Woman in McDonalds Transgender Beating

A woman is being sentenced for her role in the beating of a transgender woman inside a McDonald's restaurant in Maryland.

Teonna Brown pleaded guilty last month to first-degree assault and a hate crime. Prosecutors have said they plan to ask for a prison term of five years at her sentencing Tuesday.

The beating at the McDonald's in Rosedale in April attracted national attention after a video of it was posted online. Gov. Martin O'Malley pledged to seek greater protections for transgender
people.

Brown will be sentenced in Baltimore County Circuit Court before Judge John Grason Turnbull II.

A girl charged as a juvenile in the same attack acknowledged her role in juvenile court on July 1 and was committed to a detention facility.
