Cancer survivor Lexy Quance was granted $10,000 by the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.

A huge surprise and a big relief tonight for a young cancer survivor in Spotsylvania County: Monday morning Lexy Quance learned that she'll be getting a $10,000 grant toward her college goal.

The Massaponax High School senior is planning to attend Christopher Newport University, but bills from her treatment took away from her college fund.

Lexy's father is a Marine, and the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation heard of her plight.

This morning, the foundation's president and CEO, Margaret Davis, announced the award to Lexy and her family.

Northern Virginia Bureau chief Julie Carey introduces us to Lexy Quance, a high school senior who survived cancer and now must find a way to pay for college.

Her mother, Tracey Quance, says the award takes away some of the pressure of trying to stay healthy while worrying about paying for college.

At the suggestion of the American Cancer Society, the family set up a donation page on YouCaring.com.
